Prominent Healthcare Equipment and Product Manufacturer

Prominent Healthcare Equipment & Products Manufacturer

Part of the global powerhouse in electrical engineering and electronics, this prominent healthcare equipment and products manufacturer, has 360,000 employees worldwide. They develops and manufactures products, and design and install complex systems and projects, all tailored to a wide range of services for individual requirements. Their global Healthcare business is committed to innovations combining state-of-the-art imaging, laboratory diagnostics and IT solutions for both early prevention and diagnosis for enhanced patient care.

With two major acquisition in 2008-9, multiple distribution centers were consolidated into one 320,000 square foot DC.

Challenge

The client turned to Wynright to lead the successful installation of an automated pick/pack and ship operation to meet their stringent requirements within a very tight schedule including a new building, new WMS and all new material handling products.

Client commissioned Wynright’s analytic and advisory services to take a hard look at the various distribution operations throughout the U.S. to fully understand their supply chain challenges. Their strict inventory management combined with temperature-controlled spaces from -2 to 8 degree Celsius to ambient temperatures and locations within each distribution center limited their user-friendly environment — along with two different WMS systems operating independently.  Wynright was challenged to evaluate the possibility of automating the operation while still taking into account both lean and green initiatives.

The goal: better control, labor savings, improved working environments, lower power consumption — are all based on new run-on-demand technology.

Outcome

Wynright’s team of experts conducted a design study to evaluate the alternatives for their client and guided them through the process, meeting all challenges, providing ROI analysis with full investment summaries and current and proposed labor models. They also provided future expected growth models within the four walls and an Autoexec Guardian controlled software solution for the existing SAP WMS. The result is a state-of-the-art distribution operation, with incorporation of motorized driven roller technology (MDR), which saves energy costs and provides the throughput capacity necessary to meet peak volume requirements.
