A complete automation line was developed for an automotive supplier to fill air conditioning compressors with a controlled amount of synthetic oil and then fill the chamber with nitrogen. The line has two manual workstations, one to load and unload the line and the other to install shipping caps onto the compressor. The line includes an automated oil fill station that controls and monitors the amount of oil dispensed into the compressor. The line contains a pre-weigh station that weighs the compressor and its pallet to within one (1) gram before oil is dispensed. It also contains a post-weigh station that weighs the compressor, oil, and pallet to within one (1) gram. These weigh stations verify the correct amount of oil is dispensed. The entire system is tied together with a Bosch pallet conveyor. The system reduced manpower by four (4) to five (5) operators per shift and significantly increased quality assurance.
