A robotic system was developed that automated the assembly process for a fiber optic connector for a telecommunications company. The primary processes automated include dispensing of temperature curable adhesive, mechanical assembly of components, pre-cure machine vision inspection, infra-red (IR) heat cure, post-cure machine vision inspection, dust cap assembly, and packaging.
The system includes single Toshiba SCARA robot, Allen Bradley machine vision, custom cure system, and custom end effector. The system significantly reduced reject assembly, increasing yield.
